the XPS project won’t open, or remnants of old designs seem to be
sticking around after they have been deleted. These problems sometimes
cause XPS not to be able to even open the design so that changes can be

<p class=MsoNormal>When done in the GUI, it certainly seems that the design can
sometimes get out of sync with what the GUI is showing you, and it isn’t
clear where to go in order to fix things. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>I wanted to point out the significance of the .MHS file for
this purpose. The MHS file is the file that is getting changed by XPS
when you are making all those new ports and adding peripherals…etc.
Fortunately, it is a text file that is quite understandable (and editable!).
By taking a quick look at the error message given when you try to open the XPS
project, and taking a look at the MHS file one can usually trim out the
offending issue.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>I won’t go into all the syntax of the MHS, but it
suffices to say that it contains <o:p></o:p></p>
